- There is a massive shortage of plumbers in the UK
- Plumbers charge "astronomical prices"

Cheers Sky!

Obviously a slow news day or the reporter of the story had a new bathroom fitted and it cost more than the ÂŁ10 he or she expected lol

Where is this shortage of plumbers??? The plastic fantastic crowd round here seems to be growing by the day

I must of seen 10 new vans kicking around over the past month. There is no shortage down here.

I reckon they had a problem couldn't get a plumber that could come out straight away (because of course we all sit around twiddling our thumbs waiting for emergencies) so they phoned one of the emergency plumbers that of course charged the earth!

Loads of plumbers over here nowadays also.
Although got to agree most of them are not really capable or willing to do good workmanship

Probably is a shortage of good honest plumbers. Lot round out way need their tools taking off them. Then there's handy andy and the handyman brigade who chuck pipe in with plastic fittings and cut it with a hacksaw. Still always money about fixing morons work.

I know around the Plymouth area their is on average 600 + plumbers that's about 1 for every 30 head of population take off the number living in council & Housing Associations and it's brings that down to about 1 for every 15 to20 private customers , so that's why Plumbers earnings in this area are very poor. Some would be better off working for the living wage rate of ÂŁ7.20

Most vans I see have Plumbing mentioned among a plethora of other things the company "specialises" in. Saw a van yesterday that had "Audio and Visual Design" included in the same list as Plumbing. So are they really plumbers? If we defined a plumber as someone who has done plumbing as main occupation for at least 2 years then I think there is a real shortage of plumbers.

The issue is that most plumbing doesnt get done by plumbers..

Some companies have more than one employee that are employed to do what they are experienced and qualified to do.

I had one last week changing a pump that had cocked out for a solicitor ,he says his game aint what its cracked up to be no money unless you head to the big cities.

He then says he is looking to r etrain as a plumber !!!

Never believe solicitors, - they lie for a profession.
Every letter, phone call, or hour for a client is chargeable with them.
When was the last time any plumber charged a customer for advice over the phone, or even letters and quotes?

There is no shortage of plumbers, just a shortage of idiots willing to offer their skills for minimum wage.

There's defiantly a shortage of actual plumbers but no shortage of people willing to do plumbing as a side trade/handyman, and its no lie that the actual work involved in plumbing can be fairly easy and anyone can do it, but its doing it right, and the knowledge that only Us actual plumbers have

just being pedantic, Plymouth population 2012 around 250,000 / 600 = 416plus. Probably find you lack of maths is the issue causing lack of wages :):):)

They most likely talking about big sites ... If they kick off 20 new builds every of 40 levels then they don't have to wonder why people are missing.

As well as the money is so low at the bundling site that nobody wants to work for peanuts

Free estimations / quotes ... Wasting petrol / time and you need to fight for job with hundreds of other engineers.
