So we've all made mistakes yes? We've all done jobs where you've had to make connections that you're always a little worried about.

Back in April 2010 I did a bathroom and I still had a lot to learn as it was early days but basically the new bath was 2" higher than the old one and the hot (gravity) was on a lead pipe with a bit of 22mm wiped into the end.

The lead was all over the house and by no means could I rip it all out or anything with the low price I'd come in at. So to make up the gap I decided to PTFE 4 tap extensions together with a fibre washer top and bottom and all was well until 7:00pm the other Friday (Good Friday) when I get the call its leaking and Homeserve guy is there slagging me off saying they wont cover it as its an unrecognised method or whatever and has turned the water off.
I rushed straight round and sorted everything for free. Just wondered what others would have done? It was only leaking from the bottom fibre washer and 2 years after I'd done the bathroom she had a combi put in some that connection was now full pressure so it held a futher 5 years.

Typical that it was Good Friday! No way would I do that connection like that now but I needed a work around to get the water back on.

Was there a tap connector on the lead/ copper tail ?

Me personally, I would have done the same to go back. But I also would have pretended ( it wasn't my fault ;) ) and that it's been so long ago she might had a different engineer there and would have charged. It's a difficult situation though sometimes we need to bite in the bullet and do things for free to keep those customers

I installed a pretty strained flexi about 6 years ago when having one of the worst days of my life.
It still haunts me.

Yes, i just used 4 extensions to bring it up to tap tail.

I admit it was silly but at the time it seemed a good thing to use to get the water back on and the bath working that night.
It wound me up the tone of the Homeserve guy making a big deal when he took the bath panel off and calling me a cowboy. He was judging me by my work from 7 years ago. I've seen some rights balls ups from Homeserve but I don't say owt.

...Well i do

I wouldn't question myself...
....as long at it met the regulations at the time.

As for people slagging you off 7 years after the installation, well they have their reasons - nothing to do with you.

I would send an invoice to the customer for your time and effort.
If the customer questions it, I would ask that how long do you expect me to guarantee my work I did for you, and the system has changed since since I did the installation.

I would of made something up

a female Iron
A male iron
And a piece of copper

But if it didn't leak I wouldn't stress about it

Always easy to pick fault , and I know I've struggled / or stressed over something sometimes for hours only to view it a few hours / day later and the answers been obvious- admire you because 7yrs is one hell of a warranty. Homeserve lad being an bum**** .
