Hi all,

I'm becoming increasingly interested in a plumbing career in my home town, Bristol.

Does anyone know a good resource/information on routes to do this?

Ideally I'm looking for advice on different routes into it: i.e. Courses/Apprenticeships/Ways to get some experience to decide whether I would like the job longer term.

Would love to hear any input/ if anyone else has looked into it already.

Cheers,

Lee

Hello,
I'm in a similar situation, worked in IT since leaving school in '91 and utterly fed up of it now. I've looked at and been contacted by tradecareeruk.co.uk - anyone had any dealings with them or could maybe offer some feedback on their courses?

Thanks
Andy

I'm going to be as honest as I can here and say to save up a couple of grand and find a firm to do an apprenticeship with them. Tell the company that you will pay for it etc and sign up to a local technical college to enrol onto nvq level 2. In my eyes it's the only way to do it as you will be working full time in plumbing for two years plus before your qualified. You cant or won't beat that experience of working with someone whos skilled in there trade while your learning. My old mentor was great and basically taught me everything. You cant learn that in a training centre. IMO of course.

If the maths is correct you are in your 40`s Andy and because of that I`m afraid you are going to struggle to get a start even if you pay for course`s yourself you wont have the real life hands on experiance to get taken on by companies. There are many many threads here from people like yourself, have a read through some.

Your maths is correct - I do have a contact in the industry, a friend recently left a construction firm to set up on his own, has work coming out of his ears and said he's willing to take me along on weekend jobs etc. Do you think this would be enough?
