Just watching news about increase in fly tipping. When will Local Authorities realise that allowing disposal, at designated sites, at reasonable cost is the economic solution for everyone. My local tip now charges for clean hardcore and restricts to two bags. Where do the brains that make the rules suppose the third bag is going.

Most concrete crushing/aggregate companies take hardcore for free in my experience.

Agreed, Which is why charging householders what equates to £80/tonne, to dispose responsibly, using their own time, vehicle and fuel,at a designated location, will only encourage fly tipping.

Agree with Joni os entirely
Our local tip is run by the Gestapo (or so it seems) and woe betide anyone who puts a bit of cardboard in the household skip
There are now around 25 different bins/skips in one long line, if you find you have missed the correct bin/skip, you are required to exit the tip and queue to go back in
We have a lot of trouble with fly tipping local to me, there are always conifers dumped in lanes and mountain roads in the spring/summer (sometimes completely blocking them)
I had a bit of a discussion with one of the foremen at the tip a while back about fly tipping etc due to the exorbitant charges to use a municipal tip
His reply was "when the council go and pick up the dumped rubbish that has been fly tipped, they bring it back here and we charge them to receive it, so we get paid either by you (the public, who pay to tip) or them (the council, who pay for the fly tippers)"
His attitude was, complain all you like, you pay either way and we make the profit
Which is what it's all about, recycling is big business

Our local council are as much a fly tipper as anyone.
Quite often the local bin man dump the rubbish they can't be bothered to take on the grass verge . I flagged it up to the council with pictures and guess what nothing happened other than an email saying they will investigate.
This investigation must of took about 4 weeks with a result saying evidence was inconclusive .

Unreall!!

Our tip was great and all the little villages around used to have their own skips. Never any trouble with fly tipping. Now all the skips are gone and the local tip is only open 10 till 3 on a saturday and sunday only. If you take black bags of rubbish you have to open it to show what's inside. Rubbish dumped everywhere now.
That's why whenever I do a bathroom the first thing on the estimste is a skip. It gers rid of all the rubbish on that job, all the rubbish I've accumulated since the last skip, anything large from home getting chucked out and enough room for the cust to have a sort out.
The councils large items is a good touch though. £15 for six items. Got rid of two sofas, mattress, old coffee table and two knackered old bookcases.

I have first hand experience of how tips can operate.
I used to own a skip hire company years ago when i lived down south. Only operated 2 wagons. 7.5 ton iveco and 18 ton volvo.

On the public side it rolled like this...and there is a total conflict, not helped by corrupt staff.

The public tip was staffed and ran by private contractors.

The council payed them for keeping tonnages down.
However they got payed based on processing tonnages.

So in this case they would let anybody tip at the site. As they got payed on the basis - the more waste - the more money...

And a double wammy is they would let contractors, gypsies, man in a van all tip for a tenner a load on the public side - vans tippers 3.5t only.
So business waste was getting pushed through the public side.
Council tax payers were getting screwed.
The staff were raking in about 8 grand a week cash in hand.

And they all lived happily ever after..
And these were gangsters.
Believe me - cross them youll end up in land fill. Canny lads when you were on the right side of them.

Had a load of cr@p from a clearout of a local scout hall in a trailer which I took to the local tip. Bloke there says I can't dump it there as it's commercial waste. Drove over the road to the waste company which empties the bins at the hall and spoke to the manager there who knew the place. Was told to chuck all the stuff in the back of one of the bin lorries and it would be taken over the road later on and dumped with the rest! What a faff!

Hi Joni OS,

Just read your first post again... They charge you AND restrict you? That's bonkers!

They don't let vans in or cars with trailers at my local tip unless you have a permit which you have to pay for....They have a mini Hitler standing at the gate asking what you've got in the back/boot.....If your lucky enough to get through there's another one standing at nearly every point.

Same as my local tip in that no vans allowed at any time , even if you have got garden waste in the back on a sunday when you've plumbing written all over the side. Nearest tip is 10 miles away - no excuse but no surprise at the amount of fly tipping !

Where I live, the thing fly tipped the most is Cannabis cast offs, stems, leaves, root balls and old growing equipment. I see it all the time in the lanes and on fields when walking the dog.

Just watched a variation , opportunistic skip top ups . No shame . (May have had permission -but by appearance probably not )
.... If council want to make it harder ,
instilling fear .
(Has anyone found , a price guide for charges )
Local farmers destroying by burning less now !

Hi ladies and gents, Just thought I'd give you a laugh. As some of you are aware, I'm currently the owner of a newsagent's shop out in the sticks in Italy. Very long story, but I didn't want to close an 80-year old business if I didn't have to. It was never part of the plan and I intend to...
