Since I moved to cornwall I have managed to avoid these massive great granite walls until today! I am using a little cheap Bosch and it's not doing to great. I have always managed to get through walls by upping the size of drill bit so 10mm first 18mm 25mm 30mm but even that is a struggle for the poor drill.

So I need a decent drill for upto 30mm holes in solid granite walls what do you recommend?

I have a 32 mm masonry bit by bosch but ultimately it's what's behind it. I have a 36v makita that's great for boring holes but for hard walls I'd use my 110 makita heavy duty drill. I do similar with up sizing each time I bore.
It would cost but you would get specialist bits for boring granite. They call Aberdeen the granite city and there are companies here that specialise In boring the granite.

How long is your drill bit? I have a 30mm drill bit that's 450mm long but I need a longer bit.

I have 600mm and also 1m long as thousands of houses in my town are really thick walls , even the council ones, so i need the 1m bit for outside taps etc, they can be expensive but always look on ermis flea bay, and now and again youl get a bargain, but on average there around the hundred quid mark,

Aldi sell cheap (around a tenner) sets of 3 x 900mm ones. They do the job if your stuck but an sds max is what you need if you have better things to do than hang onto a drill for an hour.

I bought a cheap Titan drill to get me by for now seems ok for £60 but will get a sds max when I can afford one.

I've got a few 1 Mtr bits but really could do with a 30 mm bit.

if your dealing with some of the wonderful cornish granite walls, I'd use yellow pages and let some other mug do the job. A friend installed an AGA in Sennen and the installer used a local man with his core drill, took him 4 hours to make the hole, wet drilling.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Shoulda hacked a big hole wi a kango and filled it in again

I dont think his Missus would have gone for that, poor bloke did outside to inside off scaffold, to save on mess. Being cornwall, it rained and blew the whole time

This is a great wee drill bit and its only a fiver so get one before they are gone
Edge Laser Welded Dry Diamond Core 28mm x 300mm | Individual Diamond Cores | NoLinkingToThis

These are really good too. Quicker than a std sds.
Erbauer TCT Core Drill Bit 30mm | Individual TCT Cores | NoLinkingToThis
and you'll need one of these with it
Erbauer SDS Plus Arbor 300mm | TCT Core Drill Accessories | NoLinkingToThis
you won't need a pilot drill if you cup it in your hand to start it.

Btw they only do 310mm or there abouts

30mm 1m bit ? Nee chance not in your sds drill chuck will pop off! I would look at TCT core

We buy Titans for the Subbies and apprentices. Good drills to be abused. My drills are mine. One little nonce nearly had his arms broken. Caught him putting Chisel bit in my cordless sds!!

Are you telling me my girlfriend lied to me? She said it was always sunny in cornwall!

Yeah I thought I was being a bit hopeful with the drill bit.

For £60 you can't go wrong when it dies I will buy another.

You won't find a three function SDS Max drill so you are limited to using TCT cores, with a smaller 3 function SDS plus drills you can use either TCT or diamond cores.

Are u a moron? Take it back as they have 3 years RTB! Had one drill about 5 years now just is "exchanged" every 8 or 9 months
