Connecting 15mm copper to chrome 15mm

Can I use a straight Speedfit connector to join a 15mm copper pipe to a 15mm chrome plated copper pipe? I am wondering if the chrome plate will be to shiny to get a good grip.

Your right, push fit joints are not designed for chrome pipe as the grip rings in the fitting are not strong enough to grip the chrome. The best fitting to use would be compression.

OR

You could use Push Fit if you scratch off the chrome from the surface.

as mentioned use compression fitting 100 times better than a pushfit.

I use compression ones, but it's also possible to scratch some chrome from the pipe and solder copper elbow but it must be quite far from the visible part of chrome pipe because some more copper could come off with time because of the heat. It depends also on thikness of the layer of chrome on pipe. If u decide to solder better use one that contain lead unless it's for drinking water.

Anyway to avoid the hassle I'd rather suggest to use compression than solder. Definiately I do not recommend pushfit.

A little tip from the dark ages

Do not bother to scrape, file, emery, or do what ever to get the chrome plating off the tube, just get the smallest amount of hydrochloric acid you can buy, the measure precisely the depth of the socket of the fitting, with a container plastic for preference, it helps if the container is the same depth as the socket of the fitting, fill the container with the acid then holding the chrome plated tube vertically dip the tube into the acid then into cold running water, the chrome will have gone, there might be nickel plating, but that wont hurt, now you can soft solder the fitting to the copper or use a compression fitting
