Hi There, my name is James and I am a mature student (29). I am currently studying towards a Level 2 diploma at Wiltshire college. I have completed 5 of the 10 units with distinction (currently on hot water systems) and I am set to pass the course in May of is year along with a Level 2 Functional skills certificate in both Maths and English.

My pass rates are generally 95% with my worst being 88% and best being 100%.

I am currently working with a qualified level 3 plumber and 17th edition electrician. Fitting bathrooms 2 days per week when I am not at college. (Nice refurb jobs, not site work), but really want to do more on heating and progress to level 3 within a more structured environment.

I can calculate heat losses with the proper calculations and not just with a Mears wheel or online and apps!

I have a fair bit of experience in fitting out houses and the various types of building fabric used, and am a very intuitive worker with an eye for detail, working both effectively and efficiently in a logical manner . I have good customer service skills and I am easy to get on with. I believe that I can be of value to your team with your business interests in mind.

I have my own transport and a clean licence.

Thanks

James :waving:

Hi, still here. Have since passed Hot Water Systems with a score of 95%! Currently on Central Heating.

Also just passed a Level 2 Functional Skills in Maths (GCSE grade A-C equivalent). Also hoping to get my Plumbing NVQ 2 bolted onto my diploma this year, and possibly start a Gas course or begin Level 3 study.

Thanks!

It sounds like you are already in a good position.
it is nice to get 100% for personal satisfaction,
but getting the experience is ultimately more useful.

You are working with a level 3 plumber, can he not do heating work??

*grins*
had a lad on my course hitting 100% on all the tests.

couldn't fit or fix anything to save his life.

be happy you have a mentor and work, as lame pointed out most don't

not to mention if you swap, get dropped after a month and the current guy has someone new.

you will be out of luck on finishing any courses !!!!

stay as you are :)

tbh college results I would take with a piece of salt. Either it's sinking in (good) or you have a good memory (not a bad thing). As said it makes yourself feel better.

Nothing to add to the good comments above, just don't rock the boat with the current guy until your onsite bits are signed off. Then make a move to expand your horizons.

LOL I can fix things. And I score well because I understand how things work, and I take a logical approach too.

I'm not knocking the job that I have now, and I do hope to bolt on my NVQ through it. The trouble is that he doesn't have enough work to really give me a proper job. But I certainly don't rock the boat as I'm grateful for what I have.

In reply to Simon F, yes he can but he doesn't seem to do much of it. He likes the bathrooms and wants to focus on that. Thanks.

James what past jobs have you had?

Re: City & Guilds level 2. Full time mature student looking for work in Wiltshire/Avo

Be loads easier to get c&g smashing in bathrooms than on boilers. . Had assessor out loads for last few lads apparently if we did sanitary been loads quicker. It's about optimising all the opertunity on jobs. One lad was refurbishing outside taps , removing and re installing cloakrooms when we were in full heating jobs!!

Just waiting to hear back from college whether or not I can start level 3 this coming September. If not then I think that I will just simply join the competent persons schemes for both gas and unvented work to self certify.

If I can get permanent hours full time for minimum wage with a day off a week to attend college, then I'll stick with my plan to obtain a full level 3. If not then I'll be off to buy a van and some tools etc.

Hi, Can anyone advise as to why the cold water to my bathroom keeps airlocking? This originally happened about 12 months ago and has happened 3-4 times since. It’s an upstairs bathroom, fed from a tank in the attic. The tank is about 8 Meters away and feeds a bath, sink and toilet. The tank...
