Advice please. The overflow/control on the Bristan push up waste (W BTH PU1 C Bristan Luxury Bath Pop Up Waste & Brass Plug) has become loose which, in turn, has caused the push on overflow pipe to detach from the back of the fitting. I thought that loosening the control knob and re-sealing the back of the fitting would be an easy job even for an amateur!! I was wrong. I cannot get the control knob off the spindle. I have loosened the screw and saturated the inside of the knob with WD40. It will not shift.

Are there any other tricks of the trade that I could try? If I have to replace the the whole thing any tips on getting the old unit off so that I do not damage the bath? Many thanks.

Edit:

I worked out what the problem was and some careful tactile engineering produced some movement that I exploited with 2 screwdrivers. DH is now 'complaining' about the smell of WD40 and silicon sealant in the bathroom.
