bleeding
Bleeding, also known as a hemorrhage, haemorrhage, or simply blood loss, is blood escaping from the circulatory system from damaged blood vessels. Bleeding can occur internally, or externally either through a natural opening such as the mouth, nose, ear, urethra, vagina or anus, or through a wound in the skin.
Hypovolemia is a massive decrease in blood volume, and death by excessive loss of blood is referred to as exsanguination. Typically, a healthy person can endure a loss of 10–15% of the total blood volume without serious medical difficulties (by comparison, blood donation typically takes 8–10% of the donor's blood volume). The stopping or controlling of bleeding is called hemostasis and is an important part of both first aid and surgery.
The use of cyanoacrylate glue to prevent bleeding and seal battle wounds was designed and first used in the Vietnam War. Today many medical treatments use a medical version of "super glue" instead of using traditional stitches used for small wounds that need to be closed at the skin level.
Oil boiler (now~15 years old) unvented system with 17 radiators. We moved in 5 years ago and I had to keep bleeding the same radiator. The bleed gas could be burned with a blue flame and the water was acidic (pH 5.5).
Since then system has been chemically flushed (it was not too bad) and the...
Hi I have a worchester heat slave 18/25 and continually needs bleeding of the Kero, runs all day when bled. when it cuts out on the stat it wont start again without bleeding
Boiler is making a gurgling sound and keeps short cycling. I believe there is air in the the system and I've already bled all the radiators. This is the pipe leading into the water cylinder, is it where I should be bleeding the air from?
So these damn problematic vertical rads again.
I’ve had the Trv correctly fitted now but can’t seem to get rid of the air.
The advice on here was to refill and bleed slowly which I did but now I’m literally bleeding it every day for two weeks now. About two seconds of air then another...
Hi
Can anyone shed some light on why the three same radiators need constant bleeding? There's about 13 radiators in my house and it's a close vented system. Two of the rads are upstairs and one is downstairs. It's a old house and the rads have also been there for a while, my guesses are either...
Hi everyone,
I am looking to bleed the radiators in my rented flat as winter is now starting to kick in and want things to work as efficiently as possible.
Some advice says use a flat head screwdriver but there is not a groove in them to be able to use one. So I bought a radiator bleed key...
Hi all,
Should the boiler be turned off or can remain on when bleeding radiators?
I am aware heating should be off and radiators cool. However most big names i.e. SSE/E. ON/Viessmann etc. do not mention the boiler state itself (on/off). A few smaller independent websites mention to turn the...
Hi all,
Maybe a silly question here, but is bleeding radiators, one in particular! Every 3 Months roughly.
Is this normal on a combi boiler? or should I be concerned?
Thanks in advance everyone 😊
Hi all, my sister’s house has a radiator that needs bleeding but the valve is broken and rusted (see pic). What would be the best (cheapest) course of action?
thanks
Hi
one of my radiaters clearly has air in it but when I open the valve nothing comes out. The valve is the same as the one below, do I need to loosen the nut as well please or any other ideas or help would be great. Thank you
Hi
My elderly mother in law lives at the top of a 7 storey block flats, and her radiator needs constant bleeding.
The heating system is managed by the management company, but the plumbing in her flat is her responsibility.
I am seeking advice because conversations about heating quickly move...
One radiator in the house needs to be bled every week, it works fine otherwise and there is no sign of a leak near the radiator or in the pipes leading to it. Should I be worried about a leak?
Hi.
After the boiler swap in mid december (Ideal logic Max combi c30), we started having this problem with rads.
Usual symptoms: colder top rad, I can hear water flowing in pipes and rads. Usually need bleeding every 1-2 weeks since then. Pressure was on same level even after bleeding, but not...
Hi there
I have a 4 column rad and can’t locate the bleed valve. Rad has been warm and not hot for quite some time and wanted to let out the air but not sure how. Please see pics attached and let me know if I’m missing something? thanks.
Hello, total plumbing noob here.
I have a sneaking suspicion that the pipes in my house that run all the way to the attic are full of air (picture attached of pipes). These are the pipes that used to be fitted to an older hot water tank which was removed and replaced with a combi boiler- but...
Ive just moved into a rented property and some of the radiators were very cold at the top so I bled the radiators.
The boiler lost pressure and switched off.
I've repressurised the boiler to 1.5 but the controller on the boiler is completely off and I have no idea how to turn the thing back on...
I have a very old radiator for which we cannot find a key for. It desperately needs bleeding, any ideas on how I can do it or is it time for a new radiator?
My central hot water heating system has developed a very loud gurgle every time the heat comes on, so clearly has quite a bit of air in the system. It has a Taco Hy-vent automatic valve above the tank in the utility room and no bleeder valves elsewhere in the system. Should I just replace the...
Hello there all mighty and knowledgeable central heating warriors!
I have two radiators in my duplex flat which fail to heat up. One is a large vertical radiator in the living room, the other is a small ladder style radiator not too far away in a downstairs toilet so both on the same floor...
