The additional member system (AMS), also known as mixed-member proportional representation (MMP) outside the United Kingdom, is a mixed electoral system with one tier of single-member district representatives, and another tier of "additional members" elected to make the overall election results more proportional. While virtually identical to MMP in every other regard, AMS differs from MMP in that AMS does not compensate for the disproportionate results caused by overhang seats (i.e. the legislature is a fixed size under AMS whereas it may vary under MMP).
The term additional member system, introduced by the Hansard Society, has been largely replaced in the literature by the term mixed member proportional coined by New Zealand's Royal Commission on the Electoral System (1984–1986). This article focuses primarily on semi-proportional implementations of MMP used in the UK.

    Additional Thermostats or smart solution?

Hi, We have one programmable thermostat in the landing of our house. This turns on/off all the heating rads and towel rails for the upstairs. I don't know if this is odd or genius, but effectively it means once the landing is up to temp the rads in the bedrooms turn off and obviously don't...

    Is an additional vent required?

Hi I have a toilet in a ground floor WC that was served by a maserator. After problems with blocked pipework due to the long run I thought it would be a good idea to have to toilet connected to the sewage system to get rid of the maserator and pipework etc. After having a new ensuite added to...

Polypipe Overlay & UFH - Will this need additional Insulation?

I am working in my house which has a suspended wooden floor. My plan is to remove existing floorboards and fit new 18mm plywood directly onto the joists all around. Additional PRV

Hi there, just looking for a bit of confirmation. I've got a Combi with a PRV letting by.
