Default Toilet cistern - fix to wall

    Hello Friends

Just fixed my toilet with a new inlet valve, simple but I had to take the cistern from the wall to get to the underneath properly, all OK, no leaks which is the main thing and flushing properly with no intermittent filling (was getting on my nerves all through the night!).

The cistern is now a little loose from the wall, can you please advise what are the best fixings please?

At present there are 2 large bolts but the seem to go in the wall but not fix to anything and so are easily removed!!!

I want to fix it correctly so the job is done once.

Hope to hear from you soon.

    Best regards

    Rocket.

Screws with tap washers then metal washer

    Tap washer to protect cistern
Metal washer to give good fixing
Screw. Fairly obvious the function of this

    Thanks Simonjohns,

I thoguht it would be some sort of screw somehow!! I am not that dim but wanted to know whether there is a better fixing like some sort of bolt maybe?

Ar present its a thick bolt but as I say doesn't screw into anything.

    Thanks for your reply

If it's a close coupled wc I wouldn't worry too much about it.

If you're going to do things properly, then polyfilla the holes and start again with another rawplug.

Then when the polyfilla falls out after drilling, polyfilla the holes and start again with another rawplug.

Then try siliconing the screws in.

    Then give up.

The weight of the cistern will be on the pan and the butterfly nuts will stop most forward/backward movement. It shouldn't go anywhere unless someone is intent on kicking it hard.

If it's a low level wc, then a couple of square brackets for the cistern to sit on will take the weight and hit and hope with the wall repair.

If it's a little wobbly I'd suggest fitting a new doughnut ring/washer and tightening the butterfly nuts up more (possibly buy a couple of new ones.) Any local plumbing merchant can help you with these and shouldn't charge more than £5. Best to take in the doughnut first though so they give you a suitable replacement.

Doing this will make the rear screws just about redundant and give you a more secure wc.

Sorry, not wobbly to the pan but against the wall. I'll sort it.

    Thanks again.
