My daughter's place has a small water leak on a ground floor radiator valve. The radiator pipework is small diameter.i.e 8 or 10 mm. A plumber is coming back in a day or so to make necessary repairs. I am a little concerned as the house has a Boilermate 2000 on the upper floor and the plumber remarked to my daughter, when he visited the job today, that he would need to drain down the system via an outside water tap. I am not a plumber but my small knowledge of Boilermate systems leads me to believe that the central heating water supply is from an F&E tank above the Boilermate and an outside tap will not drain the central heating system. There may not be a drain valve on any of the ground floor rads. unfortunately,
The main stopcock in the house will stop water to the Boilermate F & E tank of course but perhaps someone would be able to say if the central heating return pipe at the Boilermate is likely to have an isolating valve to avoid the need to drain the Boilermate tank. I assume that the central heating pump at the Boilermate will have isolating valves. Alternatively, should replacing the radiator valve necessarily require the system to be drained? Regards to all.

Sometimes they run a drain off to the outside eg via a drain cock he might mean this
