I'm on the south coast in West Sussex and I base my charges on a rate of £35 per hour. But I am thinking of increasing them soon to £40/hr. I also have a minimum charge of £40 if I actually help the customer, but no (initial) charge for just looking at the job and quoting. Though if I eventually get the job I add my 'looksee' time to the final charge!

It should be dearer in London or a big city.

P.S. I do not explain my charges to the customer in terms of an hourly rate -- I just present him/her with a figure!

Cheers,

Big Al
