Question Open Question: How do i find a job plumbing in Birmingham UK??

They say there is a skills shortage, yet no one will employ me to do thier plumbing, either for a firm or self employed. specifically, im after some specialist recruitment agencys. I have been told they exist, but no ammount of searching for them ever prevails. anyone shed light on this?? BTW i have experience AND City & Guilds Level 1 in three aspects of plumbing plus a rake of other qualifications.. surely they should be throwin emselves at my feet???

FULL QUESTION HERE - Please answer the question on the forum if you can.

if thats your attitude that they should be throwing themselves at you you need to wake up.
shortage of plumbers maybe was but not now we are over run with polish, fast track cowboys.

c&g level 1 isn't worth a rub that is just a basic cert you need nvq 2 to be classed qualified then you still have no experience.
i'd rather employ someone with experience than an nvq 2

i think you have along way to go yet.

Thats exactly whats wrong with the industry, employer's need to be more open to recently qualified people without experience so that we have half a chance of making a living

nothing wrong with the industry.
or the people that won't give you a chance.
you can't exspect people to jump on you just cause you have a piece of paper saying you can bend a pipe.
your at the bottom of the ladder when you start and have along climb yet before people will respect you.

Relocation is not an option for me with family commitments. I've plenty of experience Domestic, commercial, on site. Lots of new builds round here going on hold. Also lots of Eastern Europeans in this area.

Apply for anything thats going hope something turns up next week.

i have 8 years experience, ACS in CCN1 WAT1 CEN1 DAH1 HTR1, been applyinyg for jobs for the last 8 months and got none of them, just kept myself afloat by doing foreigners, so for a guy with not much experience i cant imagine how hard it will be to get taken on by a firm
