Question Open Question: Replacing radiator valve (TRV)?

I'd be grateful for some advice on replacing a central heating radiator valve (TRV). Different guides I've found have said different things.Do I need to drain the central heating system? It's heated by a "normal" (non combi) boiler. If not (and I hope not), will the water I drain from the radiator be replaced automatically, i.e. is there an inlet into the system somewhere?Any tips, tricks appreciated. I'm reasonably capable, but have not done any central heating plumbing before. The valve is at the bottom of the radiator.

Wink Re: Open Question: Replacing radiator valve (TRV)?

Put a tapered rubber bung in the open vent to the f&e cistern (small black tank). Obviously ensure boiler is off and isolated first. release a bit of pressure from the circuit via bleed valve on rad. Undo old wheelhead valve and drain rad leaving other side intact. Remove wheelhead valve and replace with TRV, tighten up, clean up and most importantly REMOVE BUNG FROM OPEN VENT!!!
All done!!

Good luck.

PS. Use dust sheets and towels as water coming out will be disgusting!

John
