Question Open Question: Can anyone tell me about these fast track plumbing courses?

They cost around 5 or 6 thousand pound for an 8-10 week course. Is it worthwhile as a career change option and whats the likelihood of employment at the end of it.

FULL QUESTION HERE - Please answer the question on the forum if you can.

Make sure you get C&G qualifications and that you have a very good idea how you will leave get a job, get NVQ's, corgi?? Many of these courses leave you in a position where you get no respect in the industry for what you've 'acheived' and then where do you get your experience form when you apply for jobs??

I have seen real nice, switched on guys fly from '0 to Hero' on these and do well, but i think they'd be good at anything they did!

C & G stated 48000 passed plumbing there courses last year...... courses now 6000 plus , im in my last week of a 10 week course everybody worrying about work as this time next week there will be 30 more plumbers looking for work. look at the forum regards advertising costs for returns so your 6000 is looking more like 12000 if you need van tools advertising and 800 more dollars for site visits to get your NVQ 2 .
what you have to look at from my experiance is the people who run the courses only tell you what you want to hear, this is with any course, and as people say you will be treated with contempt by most people who hate short courses. The one thing you will have over the guy who has been in the trade for 20 years is top info on H&S so your customers will be sure that you have the info you need to work as the law requires and after spending that sort of cash outlay hopefully you will prove all the people who have no faith in intensive courses that you can do a good job at a good price, as i will be trying to do.

Everyone falls for this...plumbing is a fad and is probably nearing it's end in terms of it being a good idea to get into. Smart money, look for something a bit less obvious....be an electrician maybe :O
