A rare request
The following job has just been sent to me via Rated People asking for a Plumber to carry out lead repairs. Almost all lead work is given to roofers now, so quite surprised that a customer is asking for a Plumber for this:
I have water coming in through my roof. I suspect the problem is the lead flashing around the chimney. Think I need a plumber because it involves lead work.

Re: A rare request
Apparently plumbers years ago also did guttering, as well as all roof lead work.
They even used copper pipes, bending & soldering them!

Re: A rare request
i love doing lead, and thoroughly enjoyed getting to do it again in the colleges, (haha i had to teach myself again, before i taught them) was never great at it but could do a decent enough job and never wrecked the lead so it was always watertight, but ive seen a few apprentices at the annual plumbing competitions who in their second year would put any of us to shame ( most are from Elgin college which specialise to the point of obsession) their lead models look lke grey paint sprayed onto a box,
who remembers nuralite? ive used that in the early 80's when it was all the go as a replacement for lead

I remember Nuralite. Hated the stuff and always got covered in the big tin of gunk called No.10
