Default Interview advice ... Local Authority / Council (Plumber with gas quals position)

Hi all, any (relevant) advice appreciated ...

I have got an interview with the local authority/council for the position of plumber with full gas qualifications. This will be my first role as a heating engineer and I'm not quite sure how the LA will approach the interview, when I got the offer I asked how I could best prepare, if there was anything I needed to take etc. and they said the usual 'just bring yourself' which says nothing!

Has anyone on here had an interview with their LA (whether you still work there or did in the past) and could you tell me what to expect whether it be different to a 'normal' interview, will they sneak a few scenarios or tests in?

I'm looking forward to it but always good to get a heads up and get an idea of what to expect, nothing worse than regretting something after an interview!

    Cheers for the help ...

if its gas i wouldn't be suprised if they had some ACS questions for you to do, maybe even some technical questions.

Yea, sort of expecting a few ACS and technical questions, wondered if there was someone 'in the know' on here who could offer a few tips regarding LA interviews!

... I might be wrong, they might be all the same just thought different employers might have their own style.

    Cheers.

Good luck with the interview, maybe just a few ventilation and flueing questions and some breakdown scenarios I'd be guessing.

Thanks Dave, the more prep I do the less I'll be kicking myself IF I don't get it, feeling very positive about it though and still awaiting a response back for another 6 or so applications so should be back in work before too long!

I know it's a lot easier said then done but try and relax about it all, don't put yourself under added stress by over thinking it all. Let us know how you get on....

May be an idea to take copies of quals with you + driveing licence , you may find that you have more experience than person doing interview . Good luck, let us know how you get on !!

Still waiting to hear the outcome of the interview.

It was a bit up and down to be honest, I was a bit thrown by being faced with 3 people across the table firing technical questions at me for half an hour! Didn't get off to the best start with 2 electrical questions (not one of my strong point) but settled down after that.

I'm not the most experienced engineer in the world and I think it showed but the head gas fitter was in there and told me afterwards that he was very impressed. I'm hoping that they'll look at a mixture of experience and type of person they are looking to work for them because then I might be in with a shout.

Fingers crossed, got another couple of interviews next week.

never interviewed anyone in my life so this is just my 2 cents worth dont worry your not the most experience engineer in the world even that person faces something he hasnt seen before its how you approach the problem eg combi got hot water no heating how you chase down the answer could be what they want to know not all the questions carry equal importance some are embedded and are cructial other arnt better a team player who asks for help than a no all loner
