After I flush the toilet the systems does not stop filling up. I have to push down on the cap which the water comes out of to stop it.

Any suggestions on how to fix this?

Hi. Reads like the ball valve is shot. If you get the same from a merchant its not difficult to change. (take a photo with your mobile and match it at the shop)
