How many of you guys do glazing?

As part of my plumbing learning I was taught glazing was part of a plumbers trade and have always done a bit when asked, though have never gone out of my way to look for it. There's a new lad who's been doing a bit with me recently had no idea at all.

Do many of you guys do it?

It's mostly repair to leaded windows which I get asked for, but will do any reglazing.

Fitted and changed windows in the past but I wouldn't list it as part of a plumbers remit.
Impressed with the leaded window repairs though.

Used to do it all through serving my time as it was part of a plumbers remit 30 yrs since but haven't done any for years -still got the old 'hacking ' knife though.

I've done loads of leaded windows in churches, but it's a dying trade as modern methods use a lead adhesive tape instead of lead burning it.

Like yourself leaded light window repair on occasions. But casting sash weights using scrap lead and selling to those fitting d/glazing in sash frames. A 7lb cast iron weight would of lead be 11lb in lead using same volume. Allowing existing sash boxes to accommodate extra weight to balance the glass mass.

I can glaze a standard window. Not lead lights though. Don't have the skills or the equipment. I taught myself.

With a standard window it's easy. Remove all the old hard putty and broken glass, clean it up. Make a bed all round of new putty, bed the glass in. Tap in a few pins, More putty, shape it with the glazing knife. Job done. Very satisfying!!

Had to learn this in my early 20's when I lived in a shared house with a load of mates. Windows were always getting broken at that place. Good times!!

In the present economic climate I'm taking all the work I can get, regardless of what it is and whether its plumbing related or not!

i used to repair stained glass windows when i was 18ish, part of the plumbing maintenace department i guess.
quite enjoyed it.
