Default vaillant ecoTEC plus 637 HW problems...

    hello

I am new to plumbing, know nothing, but have got a problem...

We moved into this property (rented) few months ago, and everything seemed to be fine with our boiler until recently. Before we launched CH, our HW had been brilliant, set on 55C and always perfectly working. But since we've started using CH some problems developed. Somehow, despite no changes to the HW temperature on the boiler, we're unable to achieve 55C. I understand that the weather (temperature) outside has also lowered, but I thought that we should be fine with our HW. CH is set on 50C on the boiler. Problem occurs especially when CH and HW are altogether on. Water is only warm. I have found out that the trouble could be CH and HW being on at the same time, then one (on this occasion CH) has got priority...

I have read on some Forum, that ''the cylinder was not heating up properly and the plate heat exchanger was returning water around 49c, which meant the Boiler kept firing and cycling, resulting in poor temp rise and lukewarm showers...'' which looks similar to mine. The system is based just outside the house, in a little shed, especially built for the boiler, a big cylinder/tank that I suppose stores water, and a smaller tank of about 10 litres capacity which is...I am not sure what for. CH seems to be running great, it is just the HW....

'assuming' that your system has been installed correctly, that your cylinder has a stat fitted, that it is set to no more than 65 degrees and you have a correctly functioning room stat, you should have your boiler set to around 80 degrees.

As you are in rented accomodation, your Landlord is legally bound to keep the boiler and system in a safe and maintained condition, as a minimum you should have received a CP12 (gas safety inspection cetificate) from him/her, I'm also pretty sure that your Landlord should provide you with operational information although I wouldn't stake my life on it.

The 637 is a most ample boiler so without trying to sound impertinent it sounds like its not a small house ergo not a small rent that you have, if you're unhappy at all chase that Landlord!!

the system's been there since 2008, that's what I found out when going through some paperwork left in a bag in the shed; our problem started as soon as we started using CH; simply when CH is on, then water temperature shortly after is becoming luke warm, even one hour after the CH switches off (it's set to turn on and off in certain times); before I speak to the landlord, I'd like to make sure, that everything I do is correct, I did put last night the temperature on the boiler (HW) up to 60C, possibly the weather has got something to do with it, we'll see; thank you

have you got an immerser on the cylinder ?? try turning that on while CH is being used, so you have heating and hot water, there should be a stat on the cylinder which governs the temperature of the water, make sure its 55+ degrees and turn your boiler stat up to full

first of all, what's an immenser on the cylinder ? As I said, I don't really know much about plumbing, CH and so on... ;( but since yesterday I've learnt a lot. I am at work now, will look at it later and post my observations, when home... already started thinking about becoming a plumber
