Madness I was on nearly that when I was working in ashop whilst I was doing my apprenticeship.

The thing is though, somebody will take it and these things have knock on effects and eventually all wages go down. Its a joke really but what can you do
If you could read my mind I'd get punched in the face a lot

I know of plumbers in southwest working for £9 an hour and get flogged to work hard for that. Problem being employers market down this way .

Employers' market everywhere at the mo. I can't get my head round the stats that the plumbing industry is 50,000 short of the mark when it comes to plumbers. I don't have any links to back it up, but I have seen some reports to that effect. And this was regarding London and the Home Counties. Doesn't seem that way to me. Every advertising block is full.

That vacancy is someone trying it on. But in the near future you'd think the water suppliers will make it mandatory to have a competency cert to touch their supplies. Something drastic maybe needs to happen like it did within the electrical installation industry like the M.P's daughter dying from electricution, unfortunately.

No decent employer would even in these times, consider offering that rate. If it is genuine they deserve the they get because as already said, someone will do it.

What a shame our trade is being destroyed.

I believe it's not all doom and gloom. I think there'll be measures in place to guard against rogueys. The less plumbers get paid, the more chance there will be people don't bother to get their certificate's in order and work off of other people's certs. Insurances won't be updated. Industry will lose money on expensive tools cz they won't be being purchased. So all in all there's a great chance less money will be spent by the actual plumbers and this won't do for the associated industries that rely on us.
But, and this is probably the main reason above all else, the industry will realise that if the HSE and council bodies, water undertakers et al start enforcing procedures like having work signed off if the mains is touched and that reports about compliance to WRAS 1999 regs in peoples' homes and businesses etc and non-compliance will result in fines and non certificated workers will get fined. Then they will make huge revenue from that. And that I believe is the next incentive for them which in causality will be beneficial for plumbers. If they can set up and enforce parking restrictions outside your house imagine how much they can make with the construction industry where the safety and peoples' lives and health are at risk.

It has to happen. Too many people live together now, and it's not sustainable to have century old designs and practices still in force. Like non backflow protection, wastage etc, and authorised personnel to identify. They may even send in the droids like the electicity Co's do who make sure meters haven't been tampered with to check compliance on water supply fittings. I hope.

The guy that takes that job will be desperate and will probably only have a short course behind him. Or someone who is looking for pocket money
