If I may contribute too this posting. I for one have completed a fast track training course which I really enjoyed and learnt a great deal. I am also the first to admit that I have now more questions in relation to plumbing than when I started. However I am very shocked with organisations such as the CIPHE, due to the fact that they will not permit fast track individuals join. I wished to join as I want to be competant at what I do and understand new regulations and good practise.

It also has concerned me that every time poor workmanship is bought up it is always pointed at the fast track or commonly known as the cowboy. I personally find this offensive, and it is my belief that this ban on fast track plumbers joining CIPHE provides a closed organisation. Thus creating a restriction of knowledge and expertise within the industry. It is my belief due to Plumbers & Heating Engineers being human beings like all aspects of commerce there will be good and bad, whether you are time served or not.

my name is david williams i have been a plumber for 40 years ,i am a member of ciphe.i was unaware that fast track plumbers were not allowed to join.i am also unaware of the qualifications you gain on these courses.i feel this could be a very short sighted attitude.but having said that the ciphe is trying to maintain standerds in the industry.over the last few years i have met several fast track plumbers their skills proved to be very basic, but you would expect this as you can not train a plumber in 12 weeks.i am not having a go at new plumbers just the exagerated claims of the training companies.i myself did a goverment 6 month traing course in th 1960s but soon realised it was not enougth so i did three years night school at croyden tec best thing i ever did.you will get a lot of bad press at the moment because there is not enougth work around for fully qualified plumbers .at the moment and realy the ciphe should be letting would be plumbers know this.
