Default Dont get too excited !

Calm down guys!
There is a down side with this, but we can make it if we help each other . . .

1) Time served plumbers will hate you

2) You have not had 4 years in the trade like an apprentice

3) Setting up your own business is tough

4) There is much much more to learn than what is in your C & G . . .

There is a serious learning curve here guys!!!

I have done my course and have set up a limited company offering plumbing services, and have learnt many tricks of the trade that you simply dont get from your course. I think that probaby 9 out of 10 new recruits just dont make it.

1) Beacuse they aint getting a job and there isn't a skill shortage any more like they say . . .
2) Have you got the guts/business sense to set yourself up cold and start doing it.

This thread allows me to answer questions from you guys in how to really do it - I have done it myself. I will not sneer like the many of the time served . . .

Cheers.

you make good points mehera, but the facts are most people dont have the intuition, insight or courage to make it on their own, even if they did, the work has to spread around and the prices will become more competitive. the facts are even if all the newly trained guys/gals are good they wont all make it.

i know many whove gone back to threir original jobs, not that they wernt worth a chance but because they struggled with limited skills because they were new and they couldnt break into it. i know lads who got jobs but for buttons, people have to make tough choices

thanks fuzzy for your concidered response - i know from personal painful expereince that learning yourself is possible, but bloody hard work!

I think that these course providers dupe people into thinking that they will be wacking bathrooms in after 8 weeks training! Well I have tried and am still learning.

I trained at btsc - good facility just dont believe all the hype that the sales people feed you!

If you have guts and the right support of other plumbers then you can make it self employed. I sent out tons of letters offering my services as a new trainee and had no response.

I am going to set up a website for new trainees primarily to allow people to learn tricks of the trade that you wont on your course - a kind of online apprenticeship if you like!

Let me know how you get on - this forum is quite slow compared to others.

Thumbs down Re: Dont get too excited !

Pizz off to screwfix and join the facists there - they would welcome you with open arms!

And we would breath a sigh of relief!

Go and die off with the rest of the dinosaurs, you have had your day . . .

Cool Re: Dont get too excited !

>Pizz off to screwfix and join the facists there

no need already a member, i like to get away from the business side of things now and then. so i come here for abit of a laugh.

>I am going to set up a website for new trainees primarily to allow people to learn tricks of the trade that you wont on your course - a kind of online apprenticeship if you like!

i surpose its better than learning on some old dears heating system and flooding the place at their expence.
we'll look foreward to seeing it.
maybe we'll pick some tips up.
