"Most apprentices spend approx. 50% manuel labour 35% watching 10% doing plumbing and 5% making tea !

If you add that up over a 4 year 'time served' apprenticeship it equates to:
10 weeks acctual hands on plumbing (strangley like 10 week courses)
35 weeks watching plumbing
55 weeks lifting, making tea and listening to moaning !"

quote from mehera

i p1ssed myself when i read this, your idea of an apprenticeship is humerous, u obvious never served an apprenticeship. get a calc or better still stop coming on here trying to wind us up and go get a job where you can learn to be more humble

how does 4 years = 100 weeks? or was this easier for you to calculate?

There are two ways to make money out of plumbing.
Doing plumbing and
doing plumbers - by this i mean selling them kit, services, training, etc. For the fast track people, just make sure that you aren't simply a source of income to your trainers. 'Fast track' - sounds like a nice little earner to me - 10 on a course? £5k apiece, £50k clear minus expenses. If the courses are 10weeks, say 3 a year - £150k, luvverly jubbly and with 20 weeks off. Go on, work 40 weeks, so that £200k.
I wouldn't suggest you shouldn't do short courses, but make darn sure you're going to get your money's worth.

Me as a potential customer, I'll only use a time served, recommended plumber - if I wanted a small job done, would I use somebody advertising their services on the web? - nope, I'm more likely to get my diy book out and do it myself.

Thanks guys,
this post was supposed to help new guys starting courses, but has now been flooded by your anal banter!

If you hate cc's so much why dont you go to the screwfix forum where you can moan all day long.

Just shows your mentality that you have to attack anything and anyone to do with courses and retraining.

The one guy who posted here asking for advice probably made himself scarce, not wanting to be attacked by a pack of toothless wolves . .

Obviously there are exceptions - like ugg who accept, but the rest of you are a bit sad.

Probably unhappy with your souless existance, and need to take it out on other people.

What a shame . . .

The only one being anal here is possibly you. Hows your ltd company and website doing, be interested to know ?
If the post was meant to help, shouldnt have started it by slagging off indentured apprenticeships.

yes spot on razal.

if he wanted help he wouldnt have started the thread by attacking time served people. it was a direct attack to create an argument, he defo isnt surprised at the way the thread went, he knew it would go that way.

we havent slagged off short courses, just said it as it is, it is he who has slagged of apprenticeships.

just a WUM

Seems to me someone in this thread WISHES they were young enough to be an apprentice.

Mehera, If you could turn the clock back, you would become an apprentice right?

No god damn way - parricularlly if it meant working for one of these tight assed horse molesters!

I have got my own established business thank you very much, and I sure as hell dont need an apprenticeship!

Why would I wont to spend the next 4 years making tea for a clapped out old git, while I have my own business is beyond me . . .

All of you fosils are going to die off real soon!

Newbee look at the offensive posts they have made towards me and all fast trackers in this post if you want further proof of what is going on here . . .

Offensive ? thats you being paranoid about your lack of training / experience.
Its a shame that there arent more proper apprenticeships, but slagging them off when you have been taught most likely by someone who has gone that route, is pathetic.
Yes the industry has gone the easy way, relying on training providers and nothing else , that aint your fault or mine, the point from all the TS tradesman here is it aint the way to go.
Imagine the scenario where every trade / profession was only taught fast track....what a f**king mess we would have. Just wise up and stop being such a big headed know all, you are playing into the hands of these trainers. Hows the website going ?
