Hi there. Well i passed my first set of exams with 94 %(C&G) and 93%(BTSC) which i thought was ok . I do like has been said before from other members worry about the time between modules its way to long . I start my next module on the 28th April which in total is five weeks from when when i sat my exams. If this is improved then all is good its a good course. I will have to see when i have finished the next module the time i wait until i start the 3 one. Hopefully it wont be as long this time. Apart from that i have no more news. But i will keep you all informed when i am back there

I went for the same interview at Btsc ,Definately not an interviewer but a sales person, test was a joke got 100 per cent, i think anybody would of passed it,I been trying to get in college for 4 years but every year there fully booked,3950 THEY WANT FOR CITY AND GUILDS 6129 CERTIFICATE,with this qualification would that give me access to work on buildings sites or is that the basic , I want to be a plumber but i think bit pricey

the 6129 is more of a stepping stone to the full qual which is the nvq. it is basically the college side of the qual with on site work the rest to give full nvq. the 6129 is a god qual but not highly regarded on site, however without it theres no route to further quals

I am just about to start the btsc plumber course at manchester. I am very impressed so far despite the cost.
The benefits of training at btsc rather than a college are many, for example when my mate enrolled at a local technical college to do level 2 and 3 they were not allowed to solder the pipe fittings (because of expense in copper) apparrently because the funding of the college goes mainly into the more glamorous courses. therefore it is practically impossible to fully learn the necessary skills. at btsc this is not a problem. there is also difficulty in getting nvq from a college course because you need to be in work. at btsc the companies who are offering garenteed job placements for graduates provide 6-8 weeks of work placements for the purposes of nvq assessment. Incidentally it is because of the garenteed job that there has to be an interview. after all these companies don't just want any tom dick or harry!

I will endeavour to keep you all informed of my experiences as and when....

p.s the fee is now only 3850 for the first part. 2850 for the second and 1850 for the extra's such as unvented hot water, site card etc..

Hi, I too have passed the initial test (that dummy's can do). The whole experience with Btsc has felt like a sales pitch from these people. I have had to put my starting date on hold due to getting my finances together, and the guy that interviewed me phones me constantly to see if i can start early. Mark H please can you offer some advice as you have been there as to how the first 2 stages were? I hear that the job guarantee they offer isnt what it seems to be either, can anybody shed any light on that either?

Thanks in advance to everyone who can help.

Hate to put a downer on things but unless you've got nvq2 you'd be very lucky for an employer to take you on..i done the 6129 at a local college and was very lucky as i didn't pay, I'm doing my nvq now but its very slow cos no ones building at the mo and contemplating dropping out cos there's bills to pay and not much coming in..

Talking Re: Building Trade Skills Centre ( BTSC )

hi frebos,

i am also at btsc m/cr. i have just finished my exams for module one and i'm booked onto mod two. i start tomorrow.

regarding your enquiry you need to focus on the chapters relating to healthand safety there is no need to study pipe bending. there will be a q on x dimensions and some general questions about pipe fittings and tools. but mainly h and s

if you look at the back of your TCM it should tell you which chapters and pages to read for your module exams.

hope this helps
