good blog, i like the photos. the bending looks very god, particularly the steel work. its dificult to get the bend round a pipe straight into a tee, i normally use an M&F 45degree and a single bend, well done

Hey guys.

I'm thinking about starting with BTSC, but I'm a bit cautious as it's a whole lot of money! :P

Just a few questions:

What is the likelihood of going straight into work once you have completed the course?

Have any of you guys actually been out on the work placement? If so, what was it like?

Has the course been worth it?

very low chance of getting a job at the end of the course. is it a placement system or a proper ob they offer? do you get paid?

Hi guys,

according to my information, there is a job placement scheme in operation for 6-8 weeks which enables you to be assessed in a work environment for your nvq. i have been told that this work is paid and the work provided by the companies that offer a garenteed proper job on full qualification.

i have also been told that if they fail to find you employment within 60 days of qualifying they will refund your whole course fees.

hope this helps to clarify the issue.

P.s in future posts i will be describing my experiences at btsc manchester.

Hi Guys
I have been looking at joining plumbing course for sometime now and btsc seems to be the best that suits me. I have been told that you need to take a week off work for each module. I work a 9-5 Job and if my calculations are close that about 13 weeks possibly more that i wouldto take off work.

Is this right ? if so how is everybody else able to manage it?

Because:

A - you dont have experience3
B - you only have underpinning knowledge
C - you dont have the range of skills(only 13 weeks worth) to put this into perspective an apprentice works as a trainee for 4 years, 1 day a week in college. Thats a total 144 days in college and about 750 on site
D - probably more importantly most candidates only leave with a Tech Cert which is not widely recognised

The point about the firms giving you a job at the end i would like to see. if the training centre send 30 students a week how could they possibly absorb that amount? with a down turn in construction work due to the credit crunch i can see people scrathing for work more, who do you think will miss out most?
