It probably has two safety devices - an oxypilot and a TTB switch (thermal switch). The oxypilot will shut the fire down if the oxygen level in the room is reduced (it doesn’t monitor CO). The TTB switch will shut the fire down if the flue gasses aren’t going up the flue correctly. The times...
Would it be worth connecting them between the switch and room stat? If it’s for billing it could be unfair on those in the colder rooms?
Sorry - ignore that!
Just guessing but what about pushing socket or suitably sized piece of tube onto the tapered ends of the plastic clip. Might push all four in at the same time so you can slide the knob off.
Please get it checked/serviced. I agree with Davey, probably a pressure or gas type problem. It probably has a oxypilot which would be starting to lift off if the room was vitiated. The yellow on the pilot and main burner suggests to me that the gas pressure is low. Or it’s full up with dog hair.
The white disc is a cover. They’re adjusted with a screwdriver. You need to prize the cover off to adjust it. The white disc is meant to make it tamper proof.
It would be worth prizing the little round cover off the front of the pipe stat as then you can see where the arrow on the spindle is pointing. Not sure that mark on the cover is actually relevant. Might be worth twiddling the pipe stat setting a little and see what effect it has.
