    zip pressure reducing valve operation

Thought I had a problem with an Ariston 30L water heater in a village hall whereby the hot water flow has steadily reduced to almost nothing over a period of a year. When you open the hot water tap you get a burst of water then it slows and stops after only a small amount has come out...

    flexible basin waste use

Got to plumb up a vanity unit to a 110 stack which is the other side of a wall hung toilet frame. There is enough clearance for a 32mm waste pipe to run between the back of the frame and the wall but its not a straight line. Can be done with some difficulty with a couple of push fit 135 deg...

    secondary return location

Will be done by a G3 plumber but what I have found over the years is that every plumber has an opinion and that having G3 does not mean that you then become an expert on all aspects of plumbing. Hence the value of these forums - ultimately though you have to make the best decision based on a...

    secondary return location

Have to put in a secondary return pump to deal with a new en-suite 16m from 250L pressurised cylinder (digital shower and basin to feed). Does 22mm out and 15mm return with a Grundfos UP15-14B on the 15mm return seem OK. Any thoughts on whether pump should be located in the en-suite (easier...

DHW cylinders - internal versus external expansion pressure vessel

Good point on rotting out of expansion tank. I see that you can get stainless steel ones for just over £100 so perhaps the extra up-front cost is worth it even if only to avoid having to mop up and dry everything out after a failure!

DHW cylinders - internal versus external expansion pressure vessel

I think Ray Staafford has hit the nail on the head. Easy diagnosis of problems worthwhile and its a lot cheaper replacing an expansion vessel than spending hours trying to work out a tank problem. One final twist, we will run off a borehole water supply and the makers of the Tribune cylinder...

DHW cylinders - internal versus external expansion pressure vessel

Anyone got any views on whether a DHW cylinder having an internal expansion 'bubble' e.g. TribuneXe is better or worse than having a cylinder with an external expansion tank e.g RM Prestel. It strikes me that if there is air in the new water entering the cylinder, it will rise up to the...

solvent weld on brown underground pipe.

The initial set was quick but as multiple solvents are involved, there will be an initial flash-off followed by a longer period while the other solvents evaporate and during this time the glue slowly hardens. Given that solvents can only evaporate through the glue line this will take much...

solvent weld on brown underground pipe.

Using the recommended glue (Aquaflow) as per last post. The pipe is by Osma and the fitting by polypipe. May not be as bad as I thought, a test piece glueing two bits of Osma pipe together did stick well and when pulled apart it was the glue line that failed in that there was some left on both...

solvent weld on brown underground pipe.

Thank you all. I have tried wiping the surface of the pipe with acetone - may clean it but it does not 'soften' the plastic as it would polystyrene (airfix) for example. The glue was only bought recently - the brand being Aquaflow from Toolstation. I've since looked over various...

solvent weld on brown underground pipe.

Got a 110 mm brown UG pipe stub coming up through sub floor concrete. Want to connect a shower waste via a strap boss just above the concrete so that the pipe can run in the insulation and under the top screed. Will be very inconvenient if joint leaks! But I have doubts as to whether you can...

    Indirect cylinder recommendations

Looking to install a 250L stainless indirect cylinder as part of a barn conversion. Any recommendations as to good brands e.g. RM, Main, Santon, Gledhill etc? They all seem well specified these days but do some have better flanges or general construction? Rather pay a few £ more now to ensure...

    Secondary DHW pumps

What is the issue of using plastic (barrier) pipes in a secondary return system. Can't be temperature as pipes are rated at 90 degrees C +, nor pressure as they will take more than 10bar and their internal surface is smooth so shouldn't cause noise (although the pipe inserts do restrict flow...

    wood pellet boilers - recommendations?

9k Euro seems about right for a good boiler- most are a lot more expensive, one or two cheaper. The poor £ to Euro rate means high prices in the UK now as most boilers are from Europe. You can get the Baxi pellet boiler cheaper and it seems to have a good spec for less than £7k. Pellet stores...
