    No flow in heating system.

This is perhaps a long shot, but anyway... I live in a block of flats in Beijing, and the heating is provided by a metropolitan heating system. The block's system seem to be split into two - top 10 floors and the lower 10 floors are heated separately. My flat is on the 10th floor, and our...

dripping tap on bathroom sink i

Indeed, I guess I could get someone to take some photos from underneath, but there isn't much point, I think, since the general conclusion seems sound to me - ie that it makes more sense to try to find the bits in China. Thanks to all.

dripping tap on bathroom sink i

Eh? That isn't what it is, but I suppose it could be replaced by two taps. ...well, I don't *think* it is supplied through a single hole in the middle, but I'm not there right now. It's quite possible I'm wrong about that.

dripping tap on bathroom sink i

Thanks guys. It does sound like this isn't something you find in the UK - the tap nor the cartridge - so it is only something I'd find in China. Since it is in China, I might as well just resign myself to attempting to find the parts and/or replacement tap there too. BTW, there is no 'centre...

dripping tap on bathroom sink i

The gotcha is that it is a tap and sink is in China, though it was bought at B&Q there. B&Q closed in China a few years ago. I thought I might be able to replace the 'cartridge' (is that what it's called?) with one bought here in the UK, and take it with me on my next trip. I had someone send...

    no hot water, radiators ok

OK, so the water is tepid again :/ So, I'm again looking for a solution. I'd quite like to understand how the system works. I hope someone here can explain it. I don't think this house is so old, so it should be quite a 'recent' design (well, one can hope). I took some photos, in case it would...

    no hot water, radiators ok

Yes, he seemed to be asking me questions about such things. It seems my tank doesn't have a thermostat (or at least it isn't located where I thought from his description, and isn't anywhere obvious). He seemed to be suggesting a valve. I don't think I have a 3-port one, but perhaps do have two...

    no hot water, radiators ok

I did as you suggest and called someone. He said turn everything on constantly for a couple of days. His theory being that a valve on the tank had stuck and having both systems on constantly might free it up. Thanks for the help.

    no hot water, radiators ok

One thing I tried a few moments ago, is to turn the hw timer to on all the time (perhaps that is what you meant). I didn't hear the boiler fire up or see the led light up, but the water does seem to be somewhat hotter than it has been, though not as hot as before this problem started. I wonder...

    no hot water, radiators ok

I don't know how to just turn it on, but if we increase the central heating thermostat to something high, then it turns on, yes. It takes several seconds (15?) as it always has, but then it makes a noise, and a couple of seconds later an led light to say the burner is on.

    no hot water, radiators ok

Hi, Over the past few days we've noticed that we have no hot water any more. It isn't cold, but it certainly isn't hot...it's barely warm, tbh. To describe our 'system': We have a gas boiler in the kitchen that heats water for both central heating (which still works) and for the hot taps. It...

help me understand this heating system

Ah, ok. I suppose it is plausible that it might already be on...I'd better check it :) /edit no, it wasn't on :)

    > Immersion heater is only for a back up incase there is a problem with the boiler, you can still have hot water How does the immersion heater know there is a problem with the boiler?

help me understand this heating system

That's great! Thanks guys. I'll check out the thermostat on the cylinder, after sticking a thermometer under the tap. 60C sounds quite hot, so perhaps it is correct....we'll see :)

I don't really know how to add images, but let me try (if there's a better way, let me know)... https://goo.gl/photos/SL9C7v1JZFuU63kz7
