    Heating/water controls

Never heard of Salus before seeing this thread. Pity you didn't mention this before. I assumed that stone1048was just another householder like me and I tried using some common sense, something I have found lacking in many so called pros, and was suggesting a solution that caused the minimum...

    Heating/water controls

Why not just replace the very old Salus EP100 with the current EP110, which is supposed to have memory back up?https://salus-controls.com/files/EP110-Manual-V005.pdf

    Durability of Bristan taps

Just fitted new cartridge to a 1901 basin tap. Instead of being a quick easy job it took quite some time due to corrosion of the shroud. There was also some corrosion of the handle. The taps are nearly six years old. It was the hot water tap and there is a water softener fitted. I also have...

Any advice on heat recovery fans from Vent Axia and how good thier "h" humidity function works?

I'd never heard of these humidity fans till seeing this thread. They seem to be a poor expensive solution looking for a problem. Cost £300! Extraction a mere 9l/s compared to a cooker hood's 111l/s or a 6" kitchen fan's 200+l/s (cost<£100). gmartine is right. I eventually sited the hob on...

Any advice on heat recovery fans from Vent Axia and how good thier "h" humidity function works?

When I moved into my house we had mould behind furniture upstairs so I bought a dehumidifier which did the trick. I found the cooker hood was on recirculate. I then ducted it to outside and the dehumidifier is now redundant. Don't forget that for an extractor to work you need air to come in...

How do I open this blue valve please?

The filling loop must come off the mains. The common sense place would be in sight of a pressure gauge.

is this quote fair? central heating upgrade

If I've missed it sorry, but nobody seems to have mentioned that you can have an immersion heater with a cylinder. Having had two boiler failures, a programmer and a meter regulator fail the back up has been useful.

Purley (CR8) Exposed Shower Valve and other bits and bobs

Good Afternoon I have a faulty Triton Petita. This is two years after visit by a Triton bod! I want to replace it with a Mira Element EV which I have. The supplies to the shower are not balanced as the cold is teed off before the PRV. Check valves need fitting to kitchen mixer as cold water...

Do you know what these pipe connections are?

I think you will find dishwashers have built in softeners, which is why you have to put salt in them. Try using rinse aid.

    stopcock found after 30 years!

In my road all company stopcocks, unless metered, are in the front gardens and not easy to find. One house badly flooded when owner away and keyholder had problems finding cock in house. Perhaps a notice just inside front door as to where to find cock would be helpful.

Please help - have i been ripped off?

As a householder who is following this thread with interest, am I correct in assuming that where the boiler heats an unvented cylinder the plumber should have a G3 certificate? This is not at all clear from Gas Safe site. Maybe it's there but how far am I supposed to drill down? Where does G3...

Customer claiming against you after 6 years!

It's statements like this that show why you shouldn't seek legal advice from plumbers! A lot of people call themselves companies when they are sole traders. If you've not set up a company you are either a sole trader or a partner and you could be fully liable. Worse case scenario was joint...
