twyford cistern help please!!

replaced syphon in twyford nocturne and hair line crack has emerged in cistern, wondering if anyone knows of cheap replacement as genuine one is £255inc.

ideally just need cheap wickes cistern but cant find any the same dimension

no not yet, may be a case of replacing the toilet but trying to keep time on site & cost down as much as possible.

current cistern is 50cm width x 30cm high & 18cm depth

its a twyford close couple toilet, it has a plastic bit where the close couple kit it which the pan sits on.

Yea that's the one normally uses a back to wall pan

its the cistern, it has hairline crack in it. it didn't like being disturbed when i put in the new syphon, but obviously the customer is saying it wasn't leaking before i replaced syphon.

hence why i don't want to pay out for £200 cistern on a job that was about £100 with materials

Any cistern that has bolt holes will fit so just go down to your locals and find something similar and aslong cus is happy your golden

If I see one of them I replace the whole toilet

yeah, replace syphons all the time never had cistern crack before, bit of pain. i will try find one close size a i can to cover where old one was and hopefully it will do the job.

You sure it's not leaking from the plastic adapter wouldn't be the first time I've seen them leaking from there

no wish it was 100% from cistern, very slow drip i could see from cistern looking from the side while it was in situ and can see the hair line crack when removed the cistern.

The one where the cistern doesn`t actually touch the pan with the plastic connection? God I hate those things. Thick skinned cistern though you sure the fracture is in the cistern. CT1 works under water. (?).

Run a bit on the inside as a temp repair maybe?

Yeah was thinking about that, only thing customer knows about the crack and may feel its a bit of bodge.

Was hoping someone would come on saying I had this happen and bought x cistern from wickes cheap and has done the job for years

May go back and double check and see how pan is plumbed may be easier to replace lot as long as it does noes not then lead to further making good.

In future plumb_know I would also suggest you may be say to clients before beginning works that: works servicing appliances assume that appliances are currently in good working order and that able to withstand the necessary interventions required to service.

This should give you some necessary negotiation space should some appliance (WC, shower valve, shower enclosure etc) fall apart as soon as you take the lid off! I routinely say also in estimates that: they assume that all pipework and substrates (walls, floors, tiling etc) are Ok and able to withstand the necessary interventions.

Worth of course also superficially checking beforehand and alerting customer if think it appropriate and think of it!

yes i thought about this after just an update i just replaced the whole toilet in the end as it was easier & cheaper than messing around.

Have found out that most new toilets use long bolts rather than close couple kits these days.
