So what of the 4 options are you using ?

Depends on the customer really load comp via a learning programmable room stat for the OAPS , smart controls for others if top end maybe a Atag which has all of them .

Weather comp It works for heat pumps even better for gas boilers

non unless its suits the customer

Hello All,

I take it that We all know that the `Boiler Plus` additional Controls regulations only apply to Combi Boilers regarding the 4 specified options for additional Controls ?

Heat Only Boilers must be at least 92% efficient - that is the only specification that applies to that type of Boiler under the new `Boiler Plus` regulations.

With regard to `Controls` - Heat only Boilers obviously still require `Time & Temperature Control` and of course `Boiler Interlock` regarding the Controls - but apart from those they are NOT subject to any additional `Boiler Plus` regulations / specifications for additional Controls.

This has NOT been explained in most of the `Information` that has been recently published about Boiler Plus and because of that I am sure that there could be many Heating Engineers / Installers that don`t know the correct details.

I tried to attach a Graphic authored by the HHIC which shows this VERY Important point but I got a Forum Error Message.

An article about Boiler Plus from the `energy & utilities alliance` which quotes information from the Heating & Hot Water Information Council [HHIC] and explains the above and includes the Graphic that I mentioned is here:

Now’s the time – start telling customers about new boiler legislation.

I hope that this will help some future readers of this thread.

Regards,

Chris

EDIT: Here is a HHIC Consumers Guide to `Boiler Plus`:

The Heating and Hotwater Industry Council - press- HHIC launches consumer guide to new legislation for boiler installations which launches today

I will be offering the manufacturers own wireless control as an option to meet requirements. Will only offer weather comp to young customers with newish houses

customers think it's crazy to pay more money for very small saving that will possibly take the life of the boiler to recoup. Or even worse cost more overall.

Hello again,

Further to what I wrote about the new `Boiler Plus` Controls only applying to Combi Boilers:

Only 6 Days after the new `Boiler Plus` regulations coming into force [6th April] the Government department responsible - the `Department of Business, Energy & Industrial Strategy` has written about their interest in a future `Boiler Plus Plus` - basically putting similar `Higher Efficiency Controls` specifications onto Heat only Boilers as well as the new / existing regulations for Combi`s.

As they wrote that they would be looking at the `Boiler Plus` regulations outcome in a Year`s time and again in 5 Years perhaps they should have waited until a Year had elapsed before bringing up `Boiler Plus Plus` ?

Here is a Link to the article in the Heating Ventilating & Plumbing online Magazine:

Fitting a Vaillant with a Vaillant wireless stat this week. That’s all I need to do.

I mainly fit Worcester and ideal, with combis I predominately use both of there RF controls for cost effective installation. Previous to boiler plus anyway.

Comfort 2 for Worcester
Touch RF wireless for Ideal

Unless the customer wants a smart control.

I will always try and sell the most appropriate controls for the customer. Ie not a smart web enabled stat to a pensioner with no internet or mobile phone...!

As an interested observer can someone clarify the requirement for
"Flue gas heat recovery system" under the new boiler plus rules. Doesn't every modern combi already have this?

Would that meet buildings regs dya think?

Like every install completely complys with building control

Stop the diy gas and selling to public / non qualifieds then I might think about it

I totally agree that Gas Safe guys should be the only ones able to purchase and install gas appliances.
However that doesn’t excuse anyone from not meeting building regs.
The same as unregistered people working on gas, not meeting building regs is in contradiction of the rules.

Do they get punished for not following the regs no

By ‘they’ im Assuming you’re talking about unregistered gas workers. Yes if they are caught they get the book thrown at them.
But I think there is still more that can be done. I have thought about joining a union that would take our issues to the HSE and Gas Safe. This may lead to having things changed in our favour.
Unfortunately until such time we are all bound by the rules and need to make sure we opporate within them.
Just as an illegal gas worker can undercut a properly approved guy on price. An installer not fitting boiler plus controls can undercut an installer who adheres to the regs. The customer harldly ever knows the difference, all they see is the price.
In my view both types of fitter are a pain to the industry and until things change ‘officially’ we should all make sure we are carrying out our work in the most professional way possible in accordance with ‘current’ regs.

@ShaunCorbs. Presume you didn’t appreciate my joke about coal and Wales. No offence intended mate.
I’m msking a very fair point here mate, About doing our jobs properly and professionally. I don’t really see that I should be made fun of for that.
Either this forum is a place where professionals can exchange ideas or it is allowed to become a boys club for halfwitts.

It was a joke mate. I apologise I offended you. I have family from wales and they all have a sense of humour.

That’s funny because I have family from England and they are all a joke :)
I agree mate. At least we can now agree on something.;)

Edit due to the above sounding worse than it was supposed to. Was not meant to sound irritating. I was agreeing that that some people from England are also a joke.
