I have recently had a Stratford EB12 eco boiler fitted in my living room and a house full of radiators.

The heat sink radiator has been installed in my sons box room in an airing cupboard.

The room is unbearably hot when the system is on even with the window open.

I have requested that the engineers move it to a larger room, hallway or bathroom. They say that due to the system set up this is impossible.

I then asked if it could be moved up into the loft above, less than 1.5m. They say this is also impossible.

I am at a loss now what to do as this is a really big issue for us. The room heats up really quickly and the temperature is uncomfortable. We've had the door and window open and it's still hot. Son feels sick in the room as it's too hot for him.

Are there any solutions I can suggest to the installers or even find a different plumber to help if they refuse?

Thanks in advance for any help.

Can they fit a normally-open motorised valve (Honeywell makes one) to the radiator pipework such that it only comes on when your boiler really needs the heat-leak radiator, instead of all the time? I would think that this is safe to do, as the valve would fail to an open position. These valves aren't cheap, and it would require a bit of wiring and a pipe stat at a guess, but still cheaper than putting your son up in a hotel for the winter.

Usually a bathroom or hallway is the normal for a heat leak. Wouldn't like one in my bedroom either!

They now say the solution is a vent from the room into the attic!

I hate the sound of that and it doesn't actually sound like it will make any difference.

Please keep suggesting alternatives so I can talk to them armed with alternative solutions

Thanks I will suggest this

Saying it is "impossible" is a bit strange. Very few things are truly impossible when it comes to these things. It would help if they would give you some reasoning behind their claim. It could be expensive, awkward, impractical, etc. but why do they not want to alter the system?

As I said to a customer last night, anything's possible, but how much money and effort is worth throwing at maintaining an installation this old is up to you.

In your case, I'd say a heat leak in the loft is probably possible (not having seen it) if you lift the F&E higher and install antifreeze (but glycol goes treacly if it boils and energy efficiency of radiator in loft?!). And moving the radiator elsewhere may be a very expensive move if it entails significant pipework modification. At whose expense would depend on who agreed and decided to put the heat-leak in a small bedroom.

Mines brand new. It was only installed in June so it's worth getting right..

The guys who fitted the system came back today.

They still maintain it is impossible to move it to another room and the only solution is to have it halfway up on my living room wall one side of my chimney breast.

This is better than my son refusing to use his room but not as good as it getting moved to a hallway, bathroom or bigger bedroom.

Is it worth getting a 2nd opinion before I allow them to move it there?

Yea always worth a second opinion
