Hey Guys,

I'm after a decent core drill for drilling mainly stone and brick for boiler flues where the clutch won't keep packing in (like on my old Makita). What do you recommend?
I've been looking at the Marcrist DDM2, anyone got any experience with them?

Have the DDM2, excellent drill, though someone mentioned that they are discontinuing them.

Trev,

You gas safe, don't think you can drill the hole, you can stand and watch a Gas Safe engineer do it... needs to be falling the right way. +- 0.346 of a degree

Yes I am Gas Safe. Not sure how I go about showing it on these forums!

A shame, it looks a good bit of kit. Like I say I've been using a makita but the clutch has gone on it a few times now so i've lost faith in it. Any recommendations on any other drills if thats discontinued?

Many a true word spoken in jest, only a Gas Safe man would know, says nothing on the drill does it??:dita:
well this gas safe man his losing his patience with your BS ramblings keep trolling the forums and i will give you a free, permanent holiday

Unless I beat you to it!

Now that's 2 mods warned him in open forum.

Next steps a long one!

I have a DDM2 and its awesome. I would get the DDM3 if I was buying again.

Also they the DS150 to attach drill to and make your life easier.

Over the years ive gone for cheap drill when broken chuck away. Ive given up trying to win this situation as to either spend a lot for a good drill or buy cheap and have it break quicker

DDM don't have a chuck, just a thread to screw cores on.

Ooo here it is :)

Are they really that good?!

Do a lot of core drilling for soil (is that okay with you happyclappyflyer?) sometimes core through Cotswold stone which can be quite tough.

Do these make it quicker/easier or is it just a case they last longer?

Apologies for jumping on to this thread.

The main difference with a cheap core drill and a quality one is you dont lose time when they bind up, over heat or decide to threw you off a ladder when you hit a wall tie....

get a hilti, marcrist or a milwaukee core drill.

bosch used to do a decent one bt they discontinued it.

put a good quality core with a decent quality core drill and youre laughing.

sometimes its quicker to stich tbh, but i think the core bit is more important than the drill. Id rather have an ok drill and good bit than a good drill and a ok bit.

Good drills don't break your wrists when the bit bites lol.

Thats why i've asked this question lol. The clutch has burnt out on my Makita a couple of times and both times its not done my wrist any good!

Also, with regards to the core bits what are the Macrist bits like?!

I've been looking at this deal, what do you guys think? Marcrist DDM2/CCU850X Diamond Core Drill Set 240v 7700.001.001 - ÂŁ319.00 - www.protilertools.co.uk

I would like a ddm3 but I don't have the extra cash!
