To alter or move a gas service supply you need to have a GD1 main layer and service ticket.I worked with national grid for 8 years as an ESE and any supply attached to national grid pipework ( 90% is owned by national grid) you can only go through them to resite service, sorry but they have you over a barrel on this one

No ESE Emergency Service Engineer, I was on contract with National Grid to do emergency, and work upstream of the meter

BES sell the parts as they can be used to run underground outlets by a certified engineer.

The primary meter can only be moved by a qualified person who is certified/liscensed by the HSE this is usually the local gas emergency service providers (ESP) e.g National Grid Gas, Southern Gas Networks etc.

There are some 3rd party companies who are licsensed to carry out this work which they ususally do on iPGT (independent gas transportion) site's. This is a site where the mains gas and service pipes are owned by a different company to the local ESP. You would need to contact the ESP to move the meter or find out an approved contractor.

It may look simple but I've seen people use the wrong size fittings between metric and imperial PE and cut into steel only to find it's been sleeved with plastic. Then they panic and call the ESP or are too stupid and wrap and leave a leak and fill a house with gas, NOT GOOD!! Hope that helps with your query.

as a gsr engineer you are legally qualified to remove existing meter and put same meter back on in same place, ( so you can work on gas pipe )
legally you cannot replace existing meter for a new one in the same location or move the meter

Sorry I wasn't clear with the way I worded my response, as a gsr engineer with MET1 you are qualified to take out and refit the meter. I should have said 'meter position' as in the gas service pipe that is fed from the gas main as the main query was about MDPE and who can legally move gas meters. Then it is a qualified person who is approved by the HSE, most of who work for the ESP or one of their contractors, and not a gsr engineer. Hope that's a little clearer.

To Alter the Inconing Service Pipe a GIRS Registered UIP can undertake this work, See lloyds Registration Website this Allow the GIRS -UIP to Inform the DNO /Transporter = NGT,WalesWest,Northern Gas Networks Scotia Networks & Southern Gas Networks.Ten+ Years ago OFGEM made Transco /-now NGT was made to sell off the 5 LDZ Networks as above, ( NGT Kept the Most Densley Populated LDZ's -Nort West,West Mids East Mids East Anglia North London as these made more profit ) Due to the Monopoly Commission. Also This Allowed New Compatition in Connections Allowing IGT -to offer connection & metering services. However you will find that the gas shippers rent the meter from a MaM or Mop. to which the MaMs & MoPs undertake the metering siteworks Inn house Engineers (or to ever provides the biggest brown envolope-so im informed) Metering Service Companies ,who have to be a Ofgem OAMI Registered Company ( Ofgem Approved Meter Installer ) CoP1a= Domestic Metering CoP1b=Non-Domestic Metering- CoP1c Industrial Metering .+ Gas Safe Registered --
If a GSR Met1,Qualified engineer needed a Meter Re-Site they would need to have the MaM/MoP writtern permission before you can Legally touch their Meter Asset & a GSR Eng. will need a OAMI registered company to Inspect the works on behalf of the MaM/MoP-This will just cost more dollars this way ,So as most MaMs /MoPs are also OAMI Registered to.....
