Hi All
I need a work placement asap as I am about to start a gas installation and maintenance course. The person I was meant to be going with has taken a job on commercial so I wont be able to go with him.
I have a 6129 plumbing certificate and can work Thursday to Sunday, working the odd day or all four. I will need photos of work completed and proof of evidence sheets signing off. I have my own tools and transport and am willing to travel if work is regular. I am hard working and not scared to get my hands dirty.
If you can help me in any way please get in touch asap
Thank you

Dear All

I've got a suspected underfloor central heating leak (cupping of wooden floor) and am planning to do a dry pressure test of each underfloor circuit at 2 bar (taking into account all previous forum posts on H&S). My question is what is the minimal drop in pressure over what time frame that I should be concerned about, for example, if I get zero drop in pressure over 10 minutes but 0.1 bar over 3 hours can I just put this down to environmental change or should I be concerned in all drops in pressure regardless to the duration of the test period?
Apologies in advance if this is a stupid question.

Thanks

PS I initially tried the wet testing (as a more sensitive measure of pressure drop due to non-compression of liquids) but was dubious about the quality of equipment (Hire from Speedy) and have struggled to get wet testing equipment elsewhere.

I have just moved into a new house and the kitchen sink needs replacing. I have looked at new sinks in chrome colour but they all have straight edges, mine has slight curves on the right and left side. Can i replace old with new or do I need a complete new work surface. The sink is 98cm from far tip to tip and the new ones I saw are 96.5 cms.
Thanks

Also, would it be something someone with zero experience be able to change over. If not how much would it cost?

A customer just rang me regarding installing a towell radiator. I'm going to look at the job tomorrow to give a quote.

I'm only used to installing regular radiators. I prey to god it's one you can fit straight into the pipe work in the floor. I am not sure how to go about feeding it up the wall without making a mess of it. I'm not a plasterer so won't be able to clean it up afterwards, the customer would have to get a plasterer in. Any ideas how i should go about this? All the property development i have done we always used wall hung radiators and then brought the copper up and straight into a valve/TRV.

Would i have to use a chisel and hammer for the pipe run, if so what sort of depth should i make it?

You may receive a call about a leak on something you installed at any point. Day or night. We've all, I'm sure, had to drop what we're doing and bomb round somewhere that needs urgent attention. So how do you relax on a weekend, have a few beers or go on holiday? Do you just turn your phone off and hope lady luck leaves you be?

One of the guys I work for puts numbers of a couple of firms on the back of his business card. If he's unavailable he says to call them and if it's his fault he'll pay for the work. Good idea? Had to bail out on a planned day out today to attend an "urgent leak" that actually was very minor and would have been of little consequence if unattended. Pee'd me right off.

Hi I've an issue with a newly fitted gravity fed hot water cylinder. I have just in the process of having a shower pump fitted. In advance of this a new larger cylinder (125L?) was installed. The electric immersion now only heats enough water to fill about 6 inches of bath water where the previous smaller cylinder would fill the bath heated only by the immersion.

The builder's plumber is stating this is because new heating elements are shorter and will never heat an entire tank, and to get a tank of water I will need to have the boiler switched on (difficult at moment as it is sitting on garage floor awaiting re-install). This sounds totally wrong to me, can you tell me whether he is right and if not what the problem might be?
