Default Heat Shield any infomation?

I am going to replace a combi boiler in a property. The flue comes out underneath the facia and guttering about 250mm apart. This is too close but the boiler is about 15 years old so they may of got away with it then. really there's no where else to put the Flue so i thought about putting a heat shield above the flue. I have rang around about 10 different plumbing mercants near to me and all have said they dont even know what one is let alone where i can get one from. Any help Please!

Someone said to me about using a ali back plate for a fire and just bending a lip on it to screw to the wall and facia would that be ok and legal? Thanks for the help.

Could the boierl not go on a vertical flue kit??? the heatsheild must be 1m long and 5 mm away from the surface above it to prevent heat transfer so the books say.

i meant boiler

heat shields are not available off the shelf . they are usually bodged together by people who are not corgi registered or installers who do not obey the regs. in my opinion the installer should be removed from the register and prosecuted. there are regs for flue positions and should be followed if you cant be bothered to follow the regs you shouldnt be doing the job.move the boiler to a position where the flue conforms to the regs. charge extra! dont forget to register the new installation with corgi(compulsory) should be quite interesting that paperwork!

glow worm were fine with the heat shield and the installations it does comply to regs with a heat sheild maybe you should have a look in the corgi book. Its not ideal and i would prefer not to use it but there was no other way in in this case.

In reality the flue temperatures from a modern condensing boiler aren't going to burn the house down- either way regs is regs and if a vertical flue cannot be used could you just not extend the flue further, clearing the soffit altogether? i know some room sealed gas fires say this could lead to draughts altering performance but has anyone any first hand experience with this being the case??

Heat shields are 100% completely ok. Just read the MANUFACTURER'S INSTRUCTIONS to see what the spec is.

Any doubt, phone their tech helpline and ask what they want you to use.

Closure plate is ok if it's long enough, scrap aluminium is ok, as I said read the manufacturer's instructions and if they say it's ok - it's ok.
