Filling loop
Hi guys just done a job replacing rads, when it came to filling the system I noticed the filling loop was connected to the hot water outlet rather than the cold water inlet so when I started filling the system once the pressure got up the boiler kicked in and started filling with hot water, is it ok to connect the filling loop like this as ive never seen it done like this before. Also the condenser pipe comes of the boiler goes under the floor and comes back up aprox 20 feet away into a standpipe aprox 2 feet high thus its running uphill will this cause problems ? The boiler is a valliant echo plus.
Thanks

Re: Filling loop
Sounds like a dodgy install Alex66 IMHO.... Filling loop is not to standard but'll do the job I guess? Regards the condensate pipe I't'll eventually silt up I'd imagine or freeze under the floor!! Another not to standard piece of pipework I'd say... How long's it been installed?

I've seen the filling loop connected like that before, it works but is not best practice.
The condensate pipework is terrible, recommend re-running it properly. IMOProud to be 'Part P', the world is now my mollusc!

Re: Filling loop
Cheers guys spoke to the customer last night about it and there going to get in touch with the guy who installed the boiler. The boilers been in for approx 2 years and they have had to get the guy in a couple of times to top up the system as the filling loop isolator valve is in a very awkward place, a pair of long nose pliers and a lot of swearing done the job for me but the customer couldnt manage it so been paying £50 to have this guy do it for them. Will wait and see what he says but got a feeling I will be back to move the filling loop and reroute the condenser pipe.

Re: Filling loop
Talk to the customer about transferring filling loo p to cold feed. The drain will work but is always full of condensate. My suspicions would be raised to other design or more serious issues on the system after finding those two.
