Underfloor Heating

Hi, I am building my own house at the moment and about to install the plumbing. I was thinking of putting in some underfloor Heating. The floor hasn't been screeded yet and i have about 60/65mm of screed to go on.

Can i add underfloor heating to my floor with that amount of covering? Also can you use Poly pipe for the floor heating system and what do you use to divide the pipes up and lift them off the floor or do you lay yhem on top of the concrete?


Any help as i have no idea about this subject matter?

Hi Mate,
just laid the pipework in my own extension and it went down like this
1. 120mm concrete slab
2. 100mm celotex insulation
3. u/f heating pipework stapled to the insulation (my mate did this in a pattern so the pipework was run in at 100mm centres)
4. 60mm liquid screed. this stuff is way better than normal screed...pumped in an hour (30m2)....gone off in 3/4 days and is self levelling whereas it takes normal screed upto 3 months to dry out properly

wundafloor is good for underfloor heating used it a few times good prices to done one back last year with myson that was not bad either.

I Have used Wunda several times, their 16mm pipe is identical in appearance to uponors .but a whole lot cheaper and i can call in to their offices and pick it up.

Will defo need insulation underneath pipework, kinspan/sellertex etc. Also good idea to insulate between screeded floor and walls the screed would be in contact with, this would help prevent heat bleeding out the floor into the fabric of the building. Pipe sizing and pipe spacing would be worked out by a heat loss calc.

First you need to ascertain if you have enough floor covering at this stage
You need 100 mm celotex insulation
Then screed whether it be liquid or sand cement
But you will also need correct ceiling height to pass building control

polypipe do a thin system which might fit in the limited space you have uses 12mm pipe in a preformed backing ive only used it under floating floor so not sure if it wwill work under screed have a look at the polypipe web site
