Argue the price first. Don't just let them do it

I got to admit that the amount of tools I have fixed and how often I have it done. I don't mind paying what they ask

We all got to make money somehow

Same here Gasman, I have the makita 8406 core drill it started leaking oil through the cooler a few months ago and shortly after the clutch started slipping. Have been to my local Makita stockist and enquired about a service and repair and they recommended binning it and buying a new one and another mate who has a contact in a repair place has also been told I should bin it and buy new.
So am stuck, dont really want to bin it and if I could find the parts cheap enough I also would attempt a home repair.

If you were using it for a while and pushing it it is quite normal for the oil / grease to over heat and start splashing around. It will still work perfectly but get it in for a service. If you don't have a local agent take it into any tool hire place. They do all their own repairs. Speak to the manager or better the fitters (cut out the managers cut), and pay cash. It will not be expensive.
