Smile Old leak from basin waste pipe needs reseal

Looks like a previous sealing job has failed (although not currently damp as the house un-occupied for 4 months) by using some unknown sealant and resulted in previous evidence of rotted carpet below this joint & infestation of some form of critters in area (a white powder has been used so maybe ants?).

Any recommendations chaps what the best cure, sealant, for this please?

    Welcome to the forum.
looks like a simple "Push Fit" connection which relies on rubber washers to seal. Buy another T piece however the pipe where the sealant is looks undersized unless it is just in the photo.

Welcome PB108....looks like a bit of a bodge sealed in with silicon best thing cut it out and remake the whole joint I.e the Tee piece see if you can see a name on the fitting looks like push fit so may be easier than it looks....take that photo to your local merchants best of luck regards Turnpin

Yes it looks like it cold be undersized as said, but also not much room to get out original T piece either as per new photo. Old leak from basin waste pipe needs reseal-dscn6137.jpg.

    Maybe be easier to re-seal?

By the looks of the pic you need a 40/32 mm pushfit reducer and a new 40mm tee

Thanks the T piece has stamped on it:
    BS 52 54 PP 2-50mm WP 560.50
Nothing for the pipe going into it.

Bodge it and scarper! Do it right do it once. Replace the T piece, fit reducer, good for years.

Slip coupler needed on horizontal run due to lack of movement. Remake connection with new Tee.

All good suggestions, however there is very little room for manoeuvring the T piece out as top joining pipe goes straight up to loft & out to breather on roof and bottom piece dives down below solid floor the side piece goes to the adjoining room's basin.

Would the vertical pipe be an air admittance for a WC on a lower floor by any chance? Seen that done before. Simply cut out the pipe either side of the T using
    http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/42MM-RATCH...-/162178136024

Then replace section using compression slipcouplers, new pipe, new T etc. Simple enough. Alternatively just call a decent plumber

No it's a bungalow; only soil pipe below & air breather above; side pipe is the basin outflow.
