    Default Meynell Safemix V6 servicing

    Hi,

Got a leaking meynell shower mixer valve (Concealed/recessed.) Got a seal kit, silicon grease etc. ready to disassemble and repair.

When I turn off the mains water valve, where is the best faucet to relieve the pressure? The shower valve itself? or the bath tub? or bathroom sink? does it matter to relieve pressure using the hot or cold tap? Keep the shower valve "open" when switching back on mains or clear the air block with kitchen/bathroom sink first?

Hot water supplied by a Gledhill Pulsacoil III. When the mains is off, will the hot water still be able to "escape" to the shower valve because it is driven by a Grundfos pump? Anytime I turn on the hot water, the pump runs to drive the hot water to the tap/shower. Need to turn this pump off too before going to remove the shower valve?

First time doing this - but determined.

any more pearls of wisdom on this appreciated.

    thanks
    Bert

I would recommend draining it from the lowest point (kitchen sink maybe?) as water obviously drops. Let all the water drain and then opem the shower to let all air in and release any further water. Make sure you turn the pump off as any air getting into it may cause it run dry and burn out the pump. Once drained do your necessary repair and recommission. make sure you keep the pump turned off and refill the system starting from downstairs and working upwards. any hot water should still run through the pump but just not with the pressure you had before. Fill the shower valve by pulling water through it and then you should be able to turn your pump back on. make sure your boiler is also turned off whilst doing this as this may also burn out if no water is running through it. It's up to you if you want to leave the shower turned on when you turn the water back on but i generally turn everything off before recommissioning and bleed each tap seperately.
Hope this helps and not too confusing for you as reading it back it appears to be lol

Thanks for the great advice, dwbathrrooms.

I get the bit about the lowest water point to relieve water pressure. In my case, this is the bath tub. I dont have upstairs/downstairs - I live in a flat. In terms of refilling system, I am a little confused - Do you mean turn on the lowest faucets first? Then work up in terms of each faucet's height? And turn the shower/sink/basins onto hot first to get some water back into pump before it goes on again..?

    thanks

Sorry my mistake in thinking you may of had upstairs/downstairs. best thing to do is just pull water through all your outlets (taps) etc. both hot and cold but do this without the pump being on. If you run the pump and no water has gone through it then it may run dry and burn out. So basically turn it off before you drain down all the water and leave it turned off until you have pulled water through everywhere.
Hope it all goes ok for you, any more advice needed jus p.m me
